About Me
Ahoyhoy to all. But an extra loud ahoyhoy to all the fine people whom I have hooked up with whilst on this site.
Well I,m still an improving bassist. In fact I have probably improved considerably since joining SoundAwesome. It,s a Shame that when you start playing you don,t record yourself as a reference to how much you have improved. In fact my advice to any budding musicians that may be reading this, is to record yourself from the start. When you discover that you are getting better by hearing how crap you were, It does make you feel good and drives you on. I have had some fantastic feedback and encouragement from the members of this site and this has definitely helped to maintain my enthusiasm and to give me something to play for. I have rekindled old friendships since joining this site. Friendships that I had forgotten how valuable were. (Not sure about that sentence) There are Now 6 basses in the collection. All with stupid names. Well not all. One is called Dave and I don,t want Dave thinking I think his name is stupid. Hell no! Bass No 1. Planky. is an old 60.s Epiphone ET258 that may be older than me. This has an old tone, real 60,s sound. Bass No 2.Spanky. Tanglewood Rebel 4K. Strung as Piccolo bass. Nothing flash but very playable. This gives a modern bright clean tone a good all rounder. The piccolo tuning is an octave higher than a normal basses tuning. Very sweet sound for mellow stuff. Bass No 3. Klanky. Hudson Project bass with active pickups. ( I hadnt heard of them either but they sure do make a nice bass) This gives a powerful driven sound great for solo bass stuff and finger tapping techniques. Bass No 4. Lanky. Harley Benton HBB30BK. Electro/ acoustic. Man! Acoustic basses are huge. You could sleep in this thing! Bass No 5. Dave. Harley Benton HBB400FLTBK. Fretless. Playing this is like driving on ice. You kinda get where you going but you have to slide about a bit. I named this bass after a friend who is pretty much fretless. He doesn,t let much if anything worry him, He has nothing to fret about, and is therefore Fret-less. Bass No 6. Fat Bob. Squier, Fender. Good reliable brand, Good all rounder. I mainly own this because it is blue. Oh and it slaps well. None of these basses cost the earth. I recently had Dave setup by a guitar doctor who I know. This bass only cost me £120 Brand spanky new, not bad for an active fretless bass. I thought this baby played very well, decent action and of course fretbuzz free. I took it to the guitar doctor who has worked wonders with it. It made me realise that to a point, it is the setup that makes the guitar. Not the price tag. Between Planky,Spanky,Klanky,Lanky, Dave and Fat Bob I have a vast array of tones, so now I need a vast array of skills to take advantage of them. Practise practise then practise again. There are collaborations smouldering in the sidelines at the moment, Secret practice sessions that only a handful of people know about. Well not more than...Errr! Ok most people know. I really would like to be confident enough to play that gig next May, and I know that the positive input and connections made since joining this site wiil be thing that drives and inspires me through the next few months, and that these things will ultimately get me up on that stage. Thanks to all the good people here for being here. Thanks for reading BASSPOD PS: It,s late. Alibity ot ytpe comptly gone. This is gonna need editing at a later date. Please bear with me on it.
