![]() ![]() The journey down to Uxbridge was uneventful in itself but generally went like this: Me: I'm dead excited, are we nearly there yet? Snake: It's another 10 miles yet, so settle back down Jon was driving, Snake in the passenger seat and I was in the back wrapped in blankets trying to get some sleep because I hadn’t been to bed the night before. Snake had positioned the twat-nav on the passenger window and repeatedly shouted out the directions before the twat-nav lady? I know you'll think this is just a tad unusual and unnecessary but 'ours is not to reason why' as they say. I didn’t get any sleep, that's for sure. We arrived amidst the setting up stage, one of the best bits for me. The preparation for gigs and things is time-consuming and a lot of hard graft goes into it, which is generally never seen by the public. David, Bill and some others were there busying away. As people were arriving the excitement started to build and it wasn't even dampened by the arctic temperatures outside. After a few minor hiccups (David locked his keys in his van and the landlord rustled up a wire coat-hanger) it was all systems go... Stella arrived kitted out in her party frock and looked amazing, there's no way she's that age, I just don't believe it. Anyway with the rest of Flutatious already there the night was ready to begin... Did Flutatious play? You'd better believe it. They did a stomping set! It's amazing how people dance to their music as if they just don't care. It's almost instinctive. The funny thing is, even if people can't dance they can to Floots, everyone moves in time to the music, maybe because of the good solid beats. I passed a local in the pub while they were playing; he was elbowing his way out with his phone in his hand. His elbow caught me in my ribs; I glared at him and said "I'm sorry did my ribs hurt your elbow?" He apologised and explained that he needed to ring his friends and tell them they'd got to come and see this fantastic band that were playing. Enough said I think. Kozmik Ken filled in the gaps with his music (yet again no Abba, we will be having words) you know this bloke is a real trooper, his van had broken down in the morning and he'd had to sort that out. I'm sure he's been thanked countless times, but thank you ken from me. Akahum didn't get on till quite late, but well worth waiting for. They were all on top form. You can never truly appreciate them until you’ve seen them live. The sheer energy that goes into their sets is breath taking. If I were being utterly selfish I’d want to clear a room, put a chair in front of the stage and watch them play a whole set just for me with no interruptions, it’d be mind-blowing. I’d be sucked in and out of their music and admittedly left totally drained at the end. |
